Nicholas Samuel Mazella's Obituary
Nicholas Samuel Mazella, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday. He was a lifelong resident of Syracuse and a veteran of the Korean War. He worked at Toscano's Men Shop and later retired from the Syracuse City School District Maintenance/Food Service Department after 19 years. After his retirement, Nick then worked part time for the Syracuse Airport Security. He was an active member with the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, serving as an officer. He also participated in the Holy Name Golf League. Nick traveled frequently and enjoyed family vacations in Wildwood, NJ and spending the winters on Singer Island, FL. He enjoyed playing cards and going to the casino and always seemed to be quite lucky. Nick loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports and was a loyal fan at Henninger High School sporting events, especially basketball. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Rose Mazella; his son, Joseph J. Mazella and his brother, Samuel Mazella. Nick is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Constance "Connie" (Colaneri) Mazella; his daughter, Christine (Leonard) Del Vecchio; daughter-in-law, Janice Mazella; six grandchildren, Nicole (Kevin) Michaud, Peter Del Vecchio, Cara Del Vecchio, Marissa Mazella (Dan Paparo), Leah Mazella and Alicia Mazella; three great-grandchildren, Owen, Brady and Maya Michaud; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Thursday from 4 to 7 pm. The Holy Name Society will recite their ritual on Thursday, 3:30 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church.
