Hon. Paul G. Carey's Obituary
Hon. Paul G. Carey, 76, of Liverpool, passed away at home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Born in Quincy, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Robert and Mary (Williams) Carey. Paul graduated with honors with a BA in Psychology from Syracuse University and graduated Cum Laude from Syracuse University College of Law. He was a Trial attorney since 1988 and founded Carey Law Offices, P.C. Paul was a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association, NYS Bar Association, NYS Trial Lawyers Association and NYS Magistrates Association. He was also a member of the Town of Salina 1st Ward Counselor from 2002 – 2007 and was a Salina Town Judge since 2008. Paul worked with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department and started the 1st K-9 Unit in CNY – 1978, Criminal Investigations Unit 1983, Co-Director of the Police Academy, 1987, Member of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Dept. SWAT Team, 1981 Gold Badge Award for Outstanding Police Work and 1987 Top in Cops Award. He served on the Board of Directors for the NY Multiple Sclerosis Foundation as well. Paul loved to travel and spend time with his family. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. If there was a sporting event or recital, Paul would be there cheering them on. To say he loved fishing is an understatement! He could always be found on his boat trying to catch the big one!
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Sandra (Regelski) Carey; three children, Christopher (Donna) Carey, Jessica (Mark) Demitry, and Colleen (Shayne) Sudol; seven grandchildren, Madison, William, Colin, Samantha, Olivia, Elena, and Ryan; two brothers, Robert, and Edward (Sue) Carey; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral Mass in celebration of Paul’s life will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 259 E. Onondaga St. Syracuse, NY. Family and friends may call on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 3:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) Syracuse, NY.
