Paul J. Sindoni's Obituary
Paul J. Sindoni, 84, of Syracuse, passed away on Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Syracuse, he worked alongside his brother at Joseph J. Sindoni Wholesale Foods on North Salina Street where he was in charge of operations and merchandising. Paul was a dynamic and inspiring boss who possessed an incredible energy that translated into a highly successful business career. He was a versatile athlete; he played basketball at North High and went on to be a star on the Windy Hillers City Championship Fast Pitch Softball Team. He was a dedicated bowler, winning many tournaments and also enjoyed playing golf. Paul served in the US Army from 1950 to 1952 during which time he was stationed in Germany and was a member of numerous military softball all star teams. With his brother-in-law, Sam Donze, Paul co-founded the Italian American Athletic Club in 1954. His contributions to the organization were recognized by the club's naming a room in his honor. He was a member of Our Lady of Pompei Holy Name Society and also a member of the Pastimes Athletic Club. Paul had a zest for life. He particularly enjoyed his annual family vacations in the Poconos and Pitch Tournaments at the IAAC. He was a loving family man and loyal friend. He was predeceased by his brother, Joseph J. Sindoni; sisters, Josephine Nicoletti and Angeline Lamanna and sister-in-law, Rose Donze. Paul is survived by his loving wife, Susan T. (Iacovacci) Sindoni of Syracuse; beloved daughter, Kathleen (Dominick) Battaglia of Liverpool; 2 grandchildren, Dominick A. and Julianna K. Battaglia; 3 sisters, Genevieve (Frank) Vavonese, Santina Sindoni and Antoinette Pitonzo; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews with whom he had a very special relationship, including John Sindoni who worked at his side at the family business for many years. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 9:00 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse and 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4 to 7 PM. The Holy Name Society will recite their ritual on Friday at 3:30 PM at the funeral home. Paul's family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the dedicated staff at James Square Nursing Home and the M.I.C.U at St. Joseph's Hospital.
