Pete K. Marinos' Obituary
Pete K. Marinos, 89, of Liverpool, NY, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2024. Pete was born on October 13, 1934 to the late Kyriakoulis and Stamatiki (Papageorge) Marinakos. Pete came from Goritsa, Greece in 1947 when his family moved to Port Allegany, PA. There he developed his lifelong love of ice cream working in Georgetson’s Restaurant and Ice Cream stand, owned by his Aunt Nica and Uncle John. He graduated from Port Allegany High School in 1954, before joining the U.S. Army for two years after which he moved to Syracuse, NY. From 1957 to 1974 he co-owned Pete & Phil’s Barber Shop in Carl’s Plaza in Liverpool. In 1974 he purchased the Regional Market Diner which is still owned and operated by his family today. Pete’s loves included hunting, golfing, traveling home to Greece with his family, and his annual Greek village reunions in Jamestown, NY. Upon retirement, Pete continued to help at the diner but loved spending long summers in his beloved mountain village in Tsintzina, Greece.
He is predeceased by his brother-in-law, Elias (Louie) Andritsakis.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Georgia (Iatrou) Marinos; his three loving children, Matina (James) Sterio, Kyriako, and Elaine (Anthony) Imbesi; as well as grandchildren, Peter and Krystyna Sterio, Georgia and Tino Imbesi who will miss him very much; his sister, Athena Andritsakis, and brother, Dino (Pam); along with many nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Joanne, Mike and Anna Georgetson.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Pete’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd., Syracuse, NY. He will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 10:00 am – 10:45 am on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 prior to the funeral service at St. Sophia’s Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Pete’s memory to St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, 325 Waring Rd., Syracuse, NY 13224.
