Mrs. Caroli and Family, My deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. Caroli. I have many fond memories of playing basketball for Coach at St. Rose. It was because of him that I developed such a love for the game. I can still see him jumping up and down when we won the Grammar School Championship. There are no words to describe the tremendous gratitude I have for the years of love and support Papa has given to all of his family. Even though I am his daughter-in-law, he loved me as if I were his own. I am so lucky to have spent countless hours with him and will especially treasure the drives just the two of us took to all the girls sporting events. The stories and jokes (sometimes off-color, although he’d warn me with an introductory, “Excuse my French”), brought a smile to my face and made our travel time seem much too short. Being with him at his passing gave me the opportunity to say “Thank You”. Although I probably said it a thousand times, I never felt the true meaning of gratitude until that moment. You were an amazing Papa and so much more than a father-in-law. So, thank you Dad, for being there for every moment of Olivia and Julianna’s lives, for your unwavering support and pride in all that they have done and for loving us all, unconditionally.
I’m am so thankful to have had a grandfather such as my papa growing up. I never had a doubt in my mind that he was proud of me or that I was supported in everything I did. He treated everyone he met with such kindness and compassion. Navigating these last few days without him have been near impossible but I know he is watching over everyone he has ever loved. I’ve been so blessed these past 25 years to be able to call him and visit him whenever I felt like it. It may be a little harder to do that now, but I have been able to feel him with me, especially while I’m coaching (hey papa, I know you saw but we are 6-0 now :) ). Keep sending me beautiful sunsets and “be good.”
