Peter J. DeSalvo, Sr.'s Obituary
Peter J. DeSalvo, Sr., 79, of North Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. Peter was born in Syracuse, NY to Domenick & Jennie (Ilacqua) DeSalvo. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary in 1957, celebrating 59 years together. He served his country with the US Army, working as a mechanic and later spent eight years in the Army Reserves. Peter owned and operated DeSalvo’s Automotive from 1960 until retiring in 2000, leaving his son to run the business. He was a lifetime member of the North Syracuse Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the SPAAMFAA Antique Fire Club. Peter enjoyed taking photos, from photographing the contestants at the NYS Beauty pageants to working as the photographer for the North Syracuse Fire Department. He also enjoyed being outdoors, gardening, riding his John Deere tractor and camping. Peter and his family spent many weeks and weekends camping in the Adirondacks throughout his life, and most recently spending time on Ontario Lake. A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Peter will truly be missed by all.
He is predeceased by his father, Domenick; his mother, Jennie; two brothers, Joseph & Dominic, and his son, Domenick.
Peter is survived by his wife, Mary (Schumann) DeSalvo; his son, Peter Jr., his daughter, Christine; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Colleen (Vince), Peter, Paige, Natalie and Vincenzo; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Funeral Mass in celebration of Peter’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 24, 2017 in St. Rose of Lima Church. Burial will follow in Collamer Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
