Peter Oliva's Obituary
Peter Oliva, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Syracuse, NY after a brief illness. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Antonio and Carmela Oliva. Peter attended Assumption High School and served for 17 years in the Naval Reserve. He retired from Oliva Construction Company in 1998 after a rewarding career of 50 plus years in the family business. Peter reached out with kindness, compassion and generosity to all family and friends and especially to those in need throughout his life. He was a gentle soul, whose goodness and devotion will forever be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his sister, Carmela (Oliva) Crisafulli and brother, Stephen A. Oliva.
Peter is survived by his sister, Connie (Oliva) Denero; his brother, Anthony (Eileen) Oliva and sister-in-law, Josephine Oliva; nieces, Stephanie (Bruce) Lewis, Marianne Oliva, Annette Oliva (Dr. Jourdan Freed), Cindi (Oliva) Nicoletti, Lisa Oliva, Marianne (Mark) Downs and Angela Crisafulli of Italy; nephews, Jack Denero, Dr. Anthony (Debra) Oliva, Paul (Colleen) Oliva, Stephen A. (Pamela) Oliva, Jr., Antonio, Santi and Giacomo Crisafulli; many grand-nieces and nephews and cousins; also his foster grandson, Edward Sharpe and his devoted friend, Joseph Wysocki.
His family wishes to extend its most gracious and heartfelt gratitude to Joseph Wysocki for his special kindness to Peter.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Peter’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME is handling funeral arrangements.
