Peter N. Salamino's Obituary
Peter Nicholas Salamino, 92, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 surrounded by his family. He was a lifelong resident of Syracuse and graduated from North High School in 1942 and was awarded a full scholarship to Ithaca College. Being the selfless man he was, Peter gave up the scholarship to enlist with the US Coast Guard and defend his country from 1943 – 1946. He bravely fought in WWII aboard the ship Sledge in the pacific.
He married the love of his life Mary Catania in 1947; they shared 62 happy years together before Mary’s passing in 2010. Peter worked at Carrier Corporation for many years, retiring in 1986. Peter was a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the IAAC and loved the NY Yankees, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Catania) Salamino; his brothers, Larry and Angelo, and sisters, Theresa Cimino and Annette Zoanetti.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his three loving daughters: Doreen (Philip) Cerimeli of Cicero, Donna (John) Aiello of Richmond, VA and Deborah (James) Williamson of North Syracuse; six grandchildren, Peter (Danielle) Cerimeli of Skaneateles, Tracy (Ari) Liberman of Cicero, Marc (Rachel) Aiello of Richmond, John Alec of Richmond, Erin (Ben) Sills of East Syracuse, and Morgan Williamson of North Syracuse; eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Zachary, Maxwell, and Lucas Cerimeli, Meira, Cy, Brigg and Eliza Liberman; sisters, Mary Nicoletti and Loretta (Dolly) Grillo, along with several nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank The Hearth on James for their wonderful care in making Peter’s last years as a resident fulfilling and enjoyable.
Funeral services will be held at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Peter’s life at 9:30 AM in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, April 17, 2017 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
