Peter V. Schioppa's Obituary
Peter V. Schioppa, 91, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 7, 2015 at the VA Medical Center with his loving family by his side. Peter was born in Syracuse, the son of Ralph and Mary Schioppa. During WWII, Peter served our country honorably in the European African Middle Eastern Campaign, 3rd Division, C Company and was the third wave on Omaha Beach, for which he earned the European Campaign Medal, The Bronze Star, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal and the Germany Clasp. While serving in Europe, he met and married his war bride from Belgium, Helene. They were happily married for 69 years. Peter cherished his family, his wife, his daughter, grandchildren and his great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Patrick and his sisters, Carmella, Angie and Marylou.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Helene (Franck) Schioppa; his beloved daughter, Christine (Theodore) Donovan; his cherished grandsons, David (Casey) Donovan and Joseph Donovan; his beautiful great-granddaughters, Julia and Sophia Donovan, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Peter’s life at 10:00 am in St. John the Baptist Church. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
