Peter Anthony Uva's Obituary
Peter Anthony Uva, 79, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 5, 2023 at home surrounded by his loving family. Peter was born in Syracuse to the late V. James and Mary (Falcone) Uva and was a graduate of Saint John the Evangelist High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Le Moyne College and continued his education by obtaining Master’s Degrees at both Fordham University and Syracuse University and by pursuing a Doctorate Degree at SU. Peter was beloved during his 44-year career at the Upstate Medical Center Library, fulfilling his passion for library research. In 1989, he received the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Library Service.
A fan of the arts, Peter was an ardent fan of a multitude of musical genres, specifically the big band sound from the 30’s and 40’s; also a fan of the stage, he and his beloved wife attended Phantom of the Opera multiple times and he had a vast array of musicals on physical media; but films were his great passion, a passion he shared with his children on many a summer night during the entirety of his life. Only one thing matched his passion for films, and that was Syracuse University sports, specifically the Basketball and Football squads. One of the happiest memories of his was when the basketball team finally won the National Championship in 2003. He had a singular sense of humor, his booming laugh could be heard during the summer months on his screened-in porch with one of his many dogs sitting at his side, a newspaper or book in his hand. Peter will be missed but left the world a better place.
Peter is survived by his best friend, caretaker, and wife of 54 years, Debbie (Isgar) Uva; his sons, James and Peter; his daughter, Maria (Michael) Klink; his beloved grandson, Dalton; his sister, Angela (Edward) Bernat; along with his large extended family of Falcone and Uva cousins.
The family wishes to thank Nurse Ben from Nascentia Health, who provided extraordinary care to Peter during his final days.
A private family service will be held, followed by entombment in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum, Syracuse. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peter’s memory may be made to Nascentia Health Charitable Foundation, 1050 West Genesee St., Syracuse, NY 13204.
