Peter M. Vercillo's Obituary
Peter M. Vercillo, 84, of Syracuse NY, passed away September 22, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Peter is native of Syracuse and graduated from North High School and Morrisville College and was a veteran of the US Army.
Peter was self-employed as restaurant (Caesar’s) and bar owner (Cagney’s) as well as employed at Bristol Laboratories and Hancock Airport. He spent the majority of his life on a football field; beginning as player in high school, college and the army. As an adult he coached football and it was his one true passion. He coached the National Pop Warner championship team at St. Peters; high school football at Bishop Grimes and his beloved Christian Brothers Academy (CBA) and semi-pro football for the Syracuse Bisons. Peter was inducted into North High School, CBA, Morrisville College, and the Northside Hall of Fame.
He was pre-deceased by his parents Peter J. Vercillo and Agnes (Snow); his sisters Mary Cooper and Donna Jacobson.
Peter is survived by his wife of 57 years, Victoria (June); brothers, Louis and David (Donna) Vercillo; sister, Theresa Vercillo; his 6 children, Amy (Athanasios) Haberis, Cathleen Burgos, Peter (Jacqueline) Vercillo, Vincent (Sara) Vercillo, Michael (Patricia) Vercillo, and Julie (Robert) Hutcheon as well as 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 9:30 AM at the Thomas J. Pirro Jr. Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 3:00 until 7:00 PM at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd, (corner of Buckley Rd.) Syracuse, NY on Sunday, September 24. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry, c/o Janice Corcoran.
