I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear about Ralph. It’s still hard to process that this can someone so young-too soon. All I can remember is the strong hard-working man I first met; he reminded me of a benevolent Godfather. My observation is that he was always kind and fair. We enjoyed many visits over coffee. He had a hearty laugh and a subtle sense of humor. From our conversations I knew he loved all his family and without a doubt that he was proud of all his girls and even more so about his numerous grandchildren. Whenever Ralph would stop by he would always have something with him, whether it was a bottle of homemade wine from his Dad to give to my father, presents for the kids at Christmas time, a plate of homemade Christmas cookies (“Bones” were Bobby’s favorite and he always made sure there were a bunch just for him) or something he stopped by the bakery to pickup. I told him that he didn’t have to bring anything and he would say, “My Mother always said never show up to someone’s house empty handed.” Whenever I think about Ralph I can’t help but remember his pizza making skills. It was always a bonus if when you visited Ralph he was whipping up some pizzas! He used to say that his oven made them so good. I remember one of the tidbits of old-school wisdom Ralph imparted to me - you should keep $5 in the glove box of the car just in case. That actually came in handy on several occasions and I made sure to tell my kids the same thing. Ralph is going to be missed but definitely not forgotten.
