Ralph A. Modugno's Obituary
Ralph A. Modugno, 92, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Born on August 25, 1932, to the late Frank and Angela (Sacco) Modugno, he was a graduate of North High School and Syracuse University. A proud veteran, he served our country from 1954 to 1956 in the United States Army. He dedicated over three decades to Niagara Mohawk, retiring as the manager of property records. Beyond his career, Ralph found joy in tax preparation, devoting 40 years to helping clients who soon became cherished friends. Ralph was a devout Catholic and was actively involved with the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He was also an avid New York Yankees and SU athletics fan, and he had an unparalleled sense of humor.
Most importantly, he treasured family gatherings, especially his beloved Christmas Eve celebrations. His generous and supportive nature made him a beloved family figure.
Along with his parents, Ralph is predeceased by his sister, Susan Modugno Heim.
He is survived by his dearly beloved wife, Diane (Grovine) Modugno of 70 years; his children, Gary Modugno, of Syracuse, Ralph P. (Kelly) Modugno, of Syracuse, and Linda (Daniel) DeMauro, of Syracuse; his grandchildren, Daniel (Jennifer) Modugno, of Fayetteville, Kayleigh Modugno, of Camillus, Nicole (Anthony) Mirizio, of Cicero, Daniel DeMauro and Corey DeMauro, of Syracuse; two great-grandchildren, Katie and Austin Modugno; his brother, Francis (Judy Tyo) Modugno, of North Syracuse; his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Heim of Ohio; his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Modugno, of Camillus, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass celebrating Ralph’s life will be held in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on Monday, January 13, 2025 at 9:30 A.M. He will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Geddes. Calling hours will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ralph’s memory may be made to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Food Pantry, 927 Park Ave., Syracuse, NY 13204.
