Raymond N. Plourde's Obituary
Raymond N. Plourde, 86, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 24, 2025 at St. Camillus Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born in Lewiston, ME to the late Arthur and Cedelice (Dufour) Plourde. Raymond worked for RJ Reynolds as a Senior Sales Representative for over 30 years. Military service was very important to Raymond as he served in the United States Navy and as a Marine Corps Medic. He was invited to participate in Honor Flight Mission #23 in September 2025. After his retirement, Raymond volunteered for the CNY Food Bank, Gadabout Ithaca, the Military Room at Syracuse Handcock airport, Senior Transport Services in Melbourne FL, and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Booth during the NY State Fair. Raymond was a very generous and giving person, donating regularly to many various charities.
He was an avid golfer, once scoring the coveted double eagle but he never gloated; he more relished taking skins from his long-time golf buddies earning him the nickname “The Fairway Kid”. He was a fan of classic movies and always appreciated great movies on the big screen. He enjoyed cooking on his charcoal Weber grill and Friday night dinners out with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Raymond is predeceased by his wife, Norma Jean (Hoagland) in 1987, his brothers, Fern, Lucien, Joe, Richard, and Marcel, and his sisters, Aurora, Dolores, Janet, Germaine, Marie, Rolande, and Anita.
He is survived by his children, Stephen (Marta) Plourde, Scott Plourde (Denise Ryder, Janet Parr Plourde), Danielle (Greg) Miller, Sean Plourde; his grandchildren, Anthony Plourde, Jordan Hudson, Aaron Plourde, and Azariyah Plourde; his great-grandchildren, Emmaline Plourde, Lillian Plourde, Mason Plourde, and Miles Hudson; his brothers, Gerard, Roger, and Maurice; his sister, Dottie; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to extend special gratitude to his “angel”, Eleanor Chilbert, the VA Hospital, and Honor Flight Syracuse for the tremendous care and compassion shown to Raymond.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 1:00 P.M. on May 21, 2026 at the Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 4069 Howlett Hill Rd., Syracuse, NY.
The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life on Friday May 22nd from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at The PIER, 11 Dockside, Central Square, NY 13136. There will be classic BBQ, beverages, music (Ray style) stories and a formal tribute @ 6:00 P.M. We welcome everyone who knew Ray and the family to join in his remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Raymond's name to the Gregory J. Harris Military Courtesy Room, 5701 E. Circle Dr. #335 Cicero, NY 13039.
