Richard J. "Dick" Cashman, Jr.'s Obituary
Richard J. “Dick” Cashman, Jr., 92, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Syracuse, the son of the late Elizabeth (Carr) and Richard J. Cashman, Sr. Dick was a U.S. Army veteran in the 9th Army Air Force, 48th Fighter Group, 492nd Fighter Squadron European Theatre of WWII and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was an Engineer with the City of Syracuse for 35 years, retiring in 1977. Dick loved spending time with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ann (Orso) Cashman in 1973 and his two sisters, Carleen Gerhardt and Mary Margaret Riley.
Dick is survived by his two daughters, Patricia (Michael) Bonura of Syracuse and Sherry (Darwin) Gensel of Syracuse; five grandchildren, Amy (Eric) Nordquist, Michael (Gina) Bonura, Brian (Kara) Bonura, Katharine and Jennifer Gensel; six great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
