Richard A. "Dick" Cerio's Obituary
Richard A. “Dick” Cerio, 84, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully with family at his side on November 23, 2024, at the Francis House. Born in Syracuse, son of the late Joseph and Rose (Lella) Cerio, Dick attended Syracuse Vocational High School and went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps for six years. Dick was a truck driver for MHP Corp for 38 dedicated years and was a longtime communicant of St. Daniel’s Church. Dick enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren and was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed classic cars, the Friday night poker games with his lifelong friends, and his playful terrier "Snoopy.”
Along with his parents, Dick was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, and Michael Cerio.
Dick is survived by his son, Richard M. (Cindy) Cerio; daughters, Sheri Smart and Nicole Guyer; the mother of Dick’s children, Joyce Cerio; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sister, Maryann Aksterowicz; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and his companion, Patricia Paulsen.
The family wishes to give special thanks to the beautiful people at Francis House for their loving care in his final days, also thank you to the staff at Stella's Diner for always keeping an eye on him when he visited for his meals.
Visitation will take place on Friday, November 29, 2024, from 12:00 – 2:00 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Dick’s life at 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dick’s memory may be made to the Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave. Syracuse, NY 13208.
