Richard E. "Dick" DeGroot's Obituary
Richard E. "Dick" DeGroot, 67, of East Syracuse, passed away on Monday at Crouse Hospital. He was born in Syracuse, the son of the late R. Elliot and Marie (Simone) DeGroot. Dick graduated from Christian Brothers Academy and Le Moyne College. He was a local small business owner for many years. Dick was a board member at the Oncenter and was also on the financial committee for the Diocese of Syracuse. He enjoyed boating, sports, and especially baseball, which he coached for many years as his children grew up.
Dick is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Carol (Paul) DeGroot; his children, Michele D. (Mark) Bennett of East Rockaway, NY; R. Elliot DeGroot of Baltimore, MD and Garrett (Jennifer) DeGroot of Orlando, FL; two grandchildren, Colleen and Samuel Bennett; two uncles and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Holy Cross Church, DeWitt, where a funeral mass will be celebrated. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
