Richard A. Hollington's Obituary
Richard A. Hollington, 79, passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Mary and James Hollington, and graduated from Jamesville DeWitt High School and University of Canton. Richard and his wife recently moved to Greer, SC to be near family and enjoy the warmer weather.
Dick served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Mauna Kia AE-22, where he still maintained close friendships with many on board. He was proud to be part of the 19th Honor Flight of Syracuse, NY on September 30, 2023. Dick worked at UPS for 30 dedicated years as a driver and served as president for the retirees Silver Club for many years.
When attending Navy reunions in different parts of the U.S., he would make a point of enjoying the journey along the way. It was a life of travel when we did the cross-country trip. For many summers he and his wife enjoyed boating on Cross Lake and the St. Lawrence River, where they made lifelong friendships.
To remember Dick is to remember someone who always reached out to others.
He was passionate about his volunteering, and always enjoyed helping others, to name a few: Hope for Bereaved, Operation (Southern) Northern Comfort, Gregory J. Harris Military Courtesy Room, and Arise on the Farm. He was also a member and volunteer at St. Mary Magdalene Church, Simpsonville, SC. When we stayed at the Halo House in Houston, TX, for patients of M.D. Anderson, he wanted to volunteer but physically was not able to.
Richard is survived by his wife of 25 years, Susan (Murphy) Hollington; his daughter, Heather (Michael) Rupp; his grandson, Thomas Rupp; three stepchildren, Michael Hodgdon, Ian Hodgdon and Renee Touchette; sons-in-law, Daniel (Melinda) Belanger and Michael (Stacey) Belanger; grandchildren, Alexa, Cole, Hayden, Lucas and Emma Belanger; his brother, James Hollington and several cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
