Richard F. Longo, Sr.'s Obituary
Richard F. Longo, Sr., 83, of Camillus, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 at home surrounded by his family after a long illness.
Mr. Longo served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Columbus during the Korean War and was employed in the Heavy Military Radar and Sonar Division at General Electric in Syracuse. He also moonlighted as a weekend bartender at the Kinloch, Braeloch and Glenlock restaurants. “Rich” was known for his great sense of humor, quick-wit one-liners, cooking skills and playing the ukulele and banjo. Many a night was spent with sing-a-longs around the table while Rich played songs he wrote or adopted as his own. He spent most days trying out new recipes he saw on the cooking channel and giving the dishes to friends and family. Being a true Italian, he would cook for 50 people when only 10 were coming. Rich made the best sauce, Swedish meatballs, pulled pork and bar barbecue ribs.
He is predeceased by his parents, Richard and Elizabeth (Villanti) Longo; his daughter, Kellie Chrisafulli; his grandson, Michael, and brothers, James, Sam, Joseph, Robert and Michael.
Rich is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ruth (Cain) Longo; his children, daughter Marybeth of Baldwinsville, and son Richard, Jr. (Lori) of Camillus; brother, Donald (Anna), 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 4:30 pm, followed by a Funeral Service in celebration of Richard’s life at 4:30 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. Burial will be in the Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.
