Richard F. "Dick" MacPherson, 86, passed away on August 8, 2017. He died peacefully in Syracuse, New York surrounded by family. Coach Mac was born in Old Town, Maine on November 4, 1930, to Hugh and Ludovic (Moreau) MacPherson. H Read Obituary
Dick recruited me to play at the University of Cincinnati in 1962. I was from Massachusetts and he had recruited another 12 or so players from the area. Dick was a role model for all of us who came from blue collar backgrounds. My parents loved him and he always remembered their names and would ask about them. He even remembered my girlfriend's name and now my wife of 51 years. Great guy and a man we all admired. Richard Fugere from Peabody, Mass. Captain, UC 1965.

The first time that I met Coach Mac was in 1977. He was Head Coach @ UMass, and I was an Umpire in the ECAC. The game was UMass-UConn. Later, When He became the Head Coach @ Syracuse, I had many occasions to work his scrimmages. & meet with him on several occasions. He always had a smile and nice comments for me. One time, when He was signing autographs @ a mall, and I walked up to the area, He excused himself from the crowd, and said, " This is one of the few officials, that I would stop what I was doing to talk to". That meant a lot to me, and will never be forgotten. He has done much for Syracuse University and the City of Syracuse. RIP Coach Mac! God loves you.

We held the Orange Pack Football Luncheons on Tuesday's at the Holiday Inn Downtown
and it was there that I met Coach Mac. What a pleasure it was to know him and those
luncheons were a success because of him. The crowd just love to have him there.
May you find comfort in the memories that are yours to cherish always, and strength in
the companionship of those who share your loss.

My family Syracuse History....Moments with Coach...rememeber late 1980s as a student...I was on Crew but friends wirh Philcox, bednarz,, Ingram, Kane and my bud from rival JD HS till Rob Drummond..Coach Mac and Prof Horace Landry the best with my legacy grand pa Dean Faigle....open door policy.....Coach Mac on radio I was lucky to go to some games on charter..Coach Mac would say..Eric how are ya ??Id say, good Coach..you got me to New Orleans as a Student.. ...ha...Mac would say Eric God love ya and that ole lookin Syracuse Football hat you wear!! hahhahha Lets get Orange Sun Set!!!
