Rita A. (Bottino) Mullen's Obituary
Rita A. (Bottino) Mullen, 81, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Upstate University Hospital. She was born in Endicott, NY, daughter of the late Emilio and Rose (Malgieri) Bottino. Rita graduated from Le Moyne College in 1958 and married her first husband, Charles A. McCarthy in 1959. She taught 2nd grade from 1958-1965 and was a “stay at home mom” until 1976. Rita then taught 3rd, 4th & 5th grade in the Baldwinsville School District, retiring from Palmer School in 1997. Over the years, she was very active in Twins and Triplets Mother’s Chief, Parents without Partners Group (PWP) and was also past president of TNT.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her son, Daniel McCarthy in 1997 and her second husband, Edward Mullen in 2007; they were married on July 31, 1994 at the Onondaga County Civic Center Stage after a performance of Annie and the entire cast and crew were on stage for the wedding ceremony.
Rita is survived by her daughter, Kara Cohen of Ohio; her son, Michael McCarthy of Syracuse; three step-children, Vickie, Bill and Brad; seven grandchildren, along with several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 am on Friday, September 14, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Rita’s life at 9:00 am in St. Daniel’s Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
