Robert E. "Bob" Dunn, Jr.'s Obituary
Robert E. "Bob" Dunn, Jr. 84, of Liverpool, passed away October 8, 2023 at Upstate University Hospital. Bob was born in Syracuse and graduated from North High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 through 1960. He retired from Niagara Mohawk after 35 years.
Bob was proud of his volunteer service as President, Treasurer and Captain of the Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department. Bob also volunteered for several years with the GBAC as an EMT.
He served on the Board of the Onondaga County Firemen’s Association, was a member of CNY’S Firemen’s Association along with The Firemen’s Association of New York State. He was a member of the Solvay Geddes Youth Organization and the Geddes Veterans Association. Bob was one of the founding officers of the Solvay High School Booster Club in 1980. Bob’s greatest pleasure was golf. He participated in no less than two leagues and recreationally played another two to three times a week. On the weekends he looked forward to and enjoyed spending his summers at his camp on Lake Ontario and often traveled during the winter months.
Bob was proud of his family and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was one of a kind ~ loving, giving and a gentle soul that will be missed by all and remembered for his love to dance. Bob was always ready for a good time, and he made everyone else enjoy life with him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Robert E. Dunn, Sr. and Hilda (Schmitz) Dunn, and brothers, John and Thomas.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jo Ann (Polifroni) Dunn; sons, Robert E. Dunn III, and companion, Kathy Martin, and Paul (Angela) Dunn; daughters, Christina Marie Dunn and Michele Lee Higgins; ten grandchildren and three great-grandsons; sisters, Sue Smith and Karen (Michael) Masella, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. A funeral Mass in celebration of Robert’s life will be held at 12 pm on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Pope John XXIII Catholic Church, 8290 Soule Rd, Liverpool, NY, with entombment to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
