Robert W. Giarrusso's Obituary
Robert W. Giarrusso , 84, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital on Sunday, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in Syracuse the youngest of 16 children, to Anselmo and Maria (Salvatore) Giarrusso. He served in the U.S. Army in WWII. Bob's career began at Merchant's Bank where he became Senior Vice President of Marketing and went on to become Chairman of the Onondaga County Republican Committee. His leadership in voluntary organizations is towering. Past community involvement includes American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association, Muscular Dystrophy, St. Thomas More Foundation, and the Lincoln Republican Club to name a few. Although Bob was involved heavily in many organizations he always found time for everyone. His list of awards and honors was extensive, including, to name a few, the House of Providence Association of Syracuse Medallion for Lifetime achievement, and the "Founder's Award" for his dedication to the honored memory of the Syracuse University students who founded the Catholic Campus Ministry at Syracuse University in 1906, and to those who, with Monsignor Gannon Ryan and Monsignor Cahrles Borgogononi, have kept their dreams alive. He will be remembered as a charming gentleman who had a positive effect on those around him.
He is survived by his wife Amelia "Amie" (Piscitello) Giarrusso, sons: David (Joanne) and Charles Giarrusso; his daughters: Christina (James) Goodman, Tracey (David) Pollock, and Michele (Jeffrey) Frontale; his grandchildren, Paul (Grace), Ryan, Marcus, Julianne, Nicole and Joseph Giarrusso and Jordan, Andrew, and Jenna Pollock, and Bridget and Luke Frontale; his great grandchildren: Carmela and Giovanni Giarrusso, his sister Eva Stagnitta and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family wishes to thank all that supported and cared for Bob especially the MICU staff of St Joseph's Hospital.
