Robert J. "Bob" Kantak's Obituary
Robert J. “Bob” Kantak, 84, of Liverpool, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Crouse Hospital. Born in Syracuse, son of the late Bernard and Frances (Carlson) Kantak, Bob was a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area. He was a graduate of Assumption High School and Powelson Business Institute. He spent several years in accounting at Sylvania Corp, and later left accounting to work for Niagara Mohawk Power Company, where he retired after nearly 30 years as a technician. Always a comedian, he was known to his coworkers as “Kornball.”
Bob was an avid bowler and bowled in several leagues including the Greater Syracuse and Pastime leagues where he consistently averaged a score of over 200. Although the perfect game escaped him, he did roll a 299, and finished 2nd in a Herald Masters Tournament. He was a lifelong member of the Pastime Athletic Club.
His love of bowling was surpassed by his love of golf, which he played since he was a teen. He played in several leagues, shot his age several times, and had a hole in one.
Most of all, Bob was a devoted husband and father, enjoyed being around his family, and spending his summers at the cottage.
Along with his parents, Bob is predeceased by his brother, Bernard J. Kantak, Jr.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Cheryl L. (Heyman) Kantak; his two daughters, Cindy and Deb; brother-in-law, Scott (Linda) Heyman; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, from 9:30 – 11:00 A.M., followed by a funeral service in celebration of Bob’s life at 11:15 A.M. at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) Syracuse, NY 13212. Bob will be laid to rest in Assumption Cemetery, Syracuse.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Covenant Housing Corporation, 1228 Teall Ave., Syracuse, NY 13206 or Advocates Inc., 300 S. Manlius St., Fayetteville, NY 13066.
