Robert M. O'Brien's Obituary
Robert Michael “Bob” O’Brien, 64, of Greene Point, Sandy Pond, passed away on May 4, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He courageously battled brain cancer for 19 months.
Bob graduated from Liverpool High School where he participated in basketball, football and crew.
He worked for his father’s business, O’Brien Trucking Co., Inc., for over 30 years. He managed and operated the business after his father’s passing in 1980 until its sale to Bossong Commercial Delivery in 2001. He retired from the trucking business in 2014. He enjoyed working at the End Zone until his illness in 2016.
Bob enjoyed his earlier years on the St. Lawrence River and later, hunting & fishing & good times shared with his close friend, Bill Folds. Bob loved time spent on Sandy Pond with his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Robert Martin O’Brien; grandson, Joshua R. O’Brien, and father-in-law, Lewis C. Griffis.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Michele (Griffis) O’Brien; their children, Jennifer McFadden, Asheville, NC, Heather (Michael) Meives, Cicero and Robert M. O’Brien, Clay; grandchildren, Taylor & Nathan McFadden, Ethan & Megan Meives, Devin, Tieanna & Matt O’Brien and great-grandson, Jesse O’Brien; his mother, Marcella Hunter O’Brien Savage (Jim Savage); siblings, Denise Guralny, Colleen (Jim) LaValle, Pam (Tony) Traino, Chuck (Carol) O’Brien, Patty (Dan) Dean, Fred (Jenny) O’Brien; mother-in-law, Marilyn Griffis; sister-in-law, Susan (Michael) Briggs and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Bob’s life will be held at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Orwell. There will be a reception following the burial at Streamside Golf Course, Tinker Tavern Road, Pulaski. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
