Robert E. Racona Sr.'s Obituary
Robert E. Racona, 84, of Solvay, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013 at Crouse Hospital. He graduated from North High School with a Regents Diploma. Robert was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He served above the Arctic Circle and later moved to the North Pole where they built a radar site in a place they call Greenland for 1 year. Robert was employed as an assistant manager with Sears and Roebuck for 25 years. He was a longtime member of the Italian American Athletic Club. Robert was a devoted husband and a loving father and grandfather.
He was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Carmella Racona; brothers, Joseph, James, John and Anthony Francis who was killed in WWII; sisters, Carmella (Babe) Laurino, Mary Clark and Lilla Lewis. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dolores (Rabaglia) Racona; children, Debbie (Dave) Spataro, Robert Racona Jr., Dominique Racona, James (Karen) Racona and Kathy (Ben) Trode; grandchildren, Jessica (Bob) Bukowski, Ashley Trode, Nicole and James Jr. Racona; two brothers, Louis (Julia) Racona and Nick (Joan Aragona) Racona along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9:00 am in St. John the Baptist Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will follow in the Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
