Robert J. (Bert) Rinefierd, Sr.'s Obituary
Robert J. (Bert) Rinefierd, Sr., 92, of Liverpool, passed away at Crouse Hospital on Friday, February 20, 2015. Born in Syracuse, he graduated from Eastwood High School and was a Fighter Pilot with the U.S. Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific Theater. Robert was a Tool and Die Maker with Knise & Krick and later with Carrier Corporation. He loved working with his hands and could tackle almost any mechanical repair. Robert was a founding member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister, Lector and member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed bowling and golf and was a founding officer and coach with Salt City Little League. He also coached in the Liverpool Senior Babe Ruth League. Robert enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s athletic, musical and dance performances.
He was predeceased by parents, Herman, Sr. and Mary (Hoppe) Rinefierd and brothers, William, Edward and Richard Rinefierd.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 69 ½ years, Alice (Domres) Rinefierd; five sons: Thomas (Mary Beckelhimer) of Central Square; Robert, Jr. (Barbara) of Irwin, PA; Mark (Bettyan) of Liverpool; Jim (Dan Anderson) of Washington D.C.; David (Stephanie) of Hauppauge, NY; daughter-in-law, Karen Rinefierd of Penfield, NY; 11 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; his brother Herman, Jr. (Ruth) Rinefierd of Liverpool; along with many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Crouse Hospital, especially those on 4 North, for their care and compassion during Bert’s recent hospitalization.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Robert’s life at 10:00 AM in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Liverpool. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
