Roberta Thomas' Obituary
Roberta Thomas, 69, of Baldwinsville, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2016, in the loving care of Francis House after a prolonged battle with cancer. She was born in 1947 in Syracuse, NY. Roberta attended Syracuse University and worked as a paralegal, later retiring from Macht, Brenizer & Gingold, PC.
Roberta is survived by her best friend, Joe Sammarco; her sisters, Donna Connelly and Loretta Merritt; and her brother, Chuck Arnold. She also leaves behind several nieces, grand-nieces, and many dear friends, in particular Michelle Laatsch of Empower Federal Credit Union, Baldwinsville.
In August, 2012, Roberta was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer and given a statistical life expectancy of 2 to 14 months. Her response was, “They are wrong. I am not a statistic!” She did not give up. She fought with all her might, refusing to surrender to this horrible disease. A strong will to live and a deeply held belief in God carried her much farther than expected – 4 years.
She was a devoted congregant of Abundant Life Church. She has passed through Heaven’s gates and has been welcomed home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for all eternity. Roberta often wondered if her cats would be in heaven with her. Without a doubt, they will be.
So, goodbye Roberta. I do not know how I will get anywhere without my ace navigator, but I will try. Until we meet again…your best friend, Joe.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Roberta’s life will be held on Friday, July 22, 2016 at 12:00 pm in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, contributions may be made to Francis House, 108 Michaels Ave., Syracuse, NY 13208.
