Rocco Joseph Chiaferi's Obituary
Rocco Joseph Chiaferi, 90, of Liverpool, NY, passed away on December 25, 2015. He was born on November 26, 1925 in Solvay, NY, the son of the late Ernesto and Grace (Calandro) Chiaferi. After graduating Solvay High School, he proudly served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 89th Infantry Division during WWII. He served in Rhineland, and in the Battle of the Bulge. Rocco quickly moved up the ranks to Staff Sergeant, and was presented a Bronze Star for his service during WWII. He was honorably discharged on April 30, 1946.
After the war, Rocco began his career as a baker and became the proud owner of Snowflake Bakery, which he owned and managed for 25 years. His bakery was his pride and joy, and everyone loved his strawberry shortcakes. He was also an active member of North Central Church. Rocco enjoyed traveling, good food, and most importantly, spending time with his family.
Rocco was predeceased by his sister, Faye; first wife, Rosemary, and his second wife, Josephine.
Rocco is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Sarah Chiaferi, Rosemary (Dominick Pallatto) Chiaferi, and Cindy Stuart; his step-daughter, Constance (Garry) Maderi; two step-sons, Louis (Ann) Levanti and John (Karen) Levanti; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and his brother, Larry (Sally) Chiaferi.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. A funeral service in celebration of Rocco’s life will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME. Pastor Dan Williams of North Central Church will be officiating. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum.
