Rocco "Rocky" Oriend's Obituary
Rocco “Rocky” Oriend, also known as the “Mayor“ to his neighbors, age 85, of Cicero, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Francis House of Syracuse NY. He was born in Syracuse, son of the late Nicholas and Rose (Geiss) Oriend. Rocco was a proud U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict. Rocco retired from Ancoma Refrigeration after many years of dedicated service keeping the HVAC and perishables fresh and cool at the local Wegmans stores of Central NY. He was recently recognized as a fifty-year member of the Steamfitters Local 353, a member of the Hill Top Club in Solvay and Stanley B. Pennock VFW Post 2893.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by four brothers, Joseph, Patsy, Nicholas, and Anthony; and his sister, Marion Whorrall.
Rocco is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, MaryAnn (Carrino) Oriend; his daughter, Roxanne Oriend of Rhode Island; his son, Dean Joseph (Helen) Oriend of Virginia; four grandchildren, Deana, Casey, Kara, and Christopher (Laura); one great-granddaughter, Lillianna; sister-in-law, Rena Oriend, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and many great friends.
A special thanks to all that helped with Dads care in the toughest years of his life and those that made him smile when there wasn’t much to smile about. The MOST SPECIAL THANKS is to Rocky who made us all smile with his AMAZING kindness, his daily treats for his care givers and his witty one liners that made us all laugh.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Rocco’s life will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 10:00 am in St. Margaret’s Church, Mattydale. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
