Ronald W. Pierce's Obituary
Ronald W. Pierce, “Big Ron” “Papa”, 78, passed away peacefully April 24, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born in Carthage, NY on August 4, 1944, son of the late Walter H. Pierce and Velma Shaff. Ron resided in Syracuse from the age of 14. He graduated from Vocational High School in 1964 and was employed at ESF for over 25 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved fishing with his grandsons whom he adored. Ron loved his granddaughters to the moon and back and loved spending time with them.
Along with his parents, Ron was predeceased by his stepmom Anna and his brother Louis Akins.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Henrietta “Hens” (Vercillo) Pierce; two sons, Jim (Danielle) and Ron (Valerie) Pierce; his four beloved grandchildren, Adrianna, Anthony, Rylee, and Ronnie; two brothers, Robert (Bonnie) Pierce of Springhill, FL, and Richard (Marilyn) Pierce of Auburn, NY; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses in the ER department at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
A funeral mass in celebration of Ron’s life will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, Syracuse, NY, followed by entombment at Woodlawn Mausoleum, Syracuse. Family and friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
