Rosario J. "Rocky" Cavallaro's Obituary
Rosario J. “Rocky” Cavallaro, 83, of Syracuse, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 18, 2015. He was born on April 18, 1931 in Syracuse, NY to Antonio and Maria Cavallaro. Rocky was a North High School graduate and a member of the 1947 City League Champion Football Team and also a member of the Boys of Syracuse Drum and Bugle Corp. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Rocky was employed at Niagara Mohawk for 45 years, starting in gas and retiring from safety in 1993. He was a former co-owner of Northern Pines Golf Course and a mainstay there, helping out until he became ill. Rocky enjoyed cooking for family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, Marlene (Prince) Cavallaro in 1998; his sister, Mary Fragola and brothers, Anthony, Lewis and Salvatore Cavallaro.
Rocky is survived by his daughter, Debra Pozzi; his son, Dean (Linda) Cavallaro; his grandson, Joseph, two sisters-in-law, Josephine and Shirley Cavallaro, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will dearly miss him.
Rocky’s family would like to thank all his caregivers from the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Hospice nurses and VNA Homecare.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Rocky’s life at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
