Rosemarie (Messere) Losurdo
March 22, 2012
Rosemarie Losurdo, 85, of Syracuse, passed away Thursday at Loretto Nursing Home. Rosemarie was welcomed into the world on August 29, 1926 to John and Elizabeth Messere. Born and raised in Solvay, NY, she attended Solvay schools and then Marinello Beauty School in Syracuse. Rosemarie lived in her hometown until the age of 24 when she met Frank Losurdo. The two were married in 1950 and after a year and a half, bought their first home in Syracuse. Rosemarie owned her own beauty shop for two years in Solvay and then after getting married worked on Grant Blvd. in Syracuse. The beauty shop she worked in was one of the last barber and beauty shops that were in together. Rosemarie found lots of enjoyment in charity work. She was first a member of the hairdresser association and then became President. She gave out tests for NY State cosmetology licenses for 25 years as well as won several awards throughout her career. Four years in a row Rosemarie won the community leadership award as well as received an award from the mental health association. For 30 years Rosemarie also found time for the cancer society, "Look Good Feel Better" program. She was an active member of the Progresso Lodge. She traveled overseas for her career from 1966-1984. She has done hair shows in Paris, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Finland, Norway, Turkey, Greece, etc. As a model in Milan, Rosemarie modeled the first gold plated electric curling iron, it was called "Baby Bliss". She said, Hair shows were great because we were able to exchange our education. When not busy working, Rosemarie could always be found entertaining in her home. Both her and her husband loved being around people. Other former hobbies included going to the casino, golfing, bowling and going to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. In 1973, Rosemarie lost her husband and at the age of 80, retired from hairdressing. After taking much pride in her home for so many years, Rosemarie had found a new home at Loretto where she continued to remain active. You could find Rosemarie getting her hair & nails done weekly in purple of course, which is her favorite color. Playing bingo, pokeno, , visiting with friends and the list goes on...Rosemarie's advice to others is "Enjoy life while you can and don't sit home unless your entertaining of course". She is survived by Nieces, Nephews and very close friends. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 9:00 am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/ St. Peter Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR.
