Rosemarie E. "Ro" Malagisi's Obituary
Rosemarie E. “Ro” (Squillace) Malagisi, 81, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023. She was born in Rome NY on December 31, 1941, the daughter of Venturo “Ben” and Mary (Volpe) Squillace. After graduating from Rome Free Academy, she worked as a secretary at Griffiss Air Force Base for 20 years where she met her husband Carmen Malagisi who she married on February 11, 1978. Her purpose in life became a reality when she became a mother to Carmen (1980) and Maria (1982.)
She was an active member of St. John the Baptist church choir; a dedicated member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; enjoyed traveling and just being with friends and family. In her later years she found immense joy in being “Nonni” to her 2 granddaughters.
Ro made friends wherever she went, the checkout line at the grocery store or at the penny slots at the casino. She was gracious, honest, compassionate, and full of fun. She had the kind of sense of humor that made any serious moment a little easier to bear. She was a loving wife, mother, nonni, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who loved her.
Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Carmen in 2008.
Rosemarie is survived by her son, Carmen (Christine), of Baldwinsville, NY; her daughter, Maria Malagisi (Ryan Drescher) of Syracuse, NY; two granddaughters, Ella Malagisi and Rita Drescher; one brother, Frank (Rita) Squillace, of Charlottesville, VA; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Funeral Mass in celebration of Rosemarie’s life will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Church, 210 E. Dominick St. Rome, NY, with burial to follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Rome, NY. Family and friends may call on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
