Sam S. Lanza's Obituary
Sam S. Lanza, 96, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 4, 2014. He was born in Syracuse and attended North High School. Sam served with the U.S. Army during WWII and was a Disabled American Veteran. He was a Foreman at The Syracuse Herald Journal for 60 years. Sam was a member of the Holy Name Society at Our Lady of Pompei Church and past president of the Golden Agers. He was also a communicant and long time usher with St. Matthews Church. Sam was a past member of the Italian American Athletic Club and an avid bowler, golfer at Arrowhead and SU fan.
He was predeceased by his brothers, James and Frank Lanza, and his sister, Mary Camino. Sam is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Grace J. (Pizzi) Lanza; his son, Sam J. (Marrianne) Lanza of Cicero; his daughter, Kathleen (Geoffrey) Ciereck of Lakeland; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; his brother, Anthony Lanza of Liverpool; sister-in-law, Ernestine Lanza of Syracuse, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sam's family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the 2nd floor staff at Iroquois Nursing Home for their loving care.
A funeral mass by Rev. Severine Yagaza in celebration of Sam's life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 9:00 am in St. Matthew's Church, East Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
