Samuel V. LaRose's Obituary
Samuel V. “Sonny” LaRose, 88, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2023 surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Josephine (Olandese) LaRose; his daughter, Anne Marie McCall (Art Judge); sons, Paul (Anne) LaRose, Frank (Erin) LaRose and Sam (Sandi) LaRose; his brother, Frank (Gail) LaRose.
Born in 1935 on the East side of Syracuse, he attended St. Vincent DePaul before joining the U.S. Army. Upon leaving the army he began a long career in the trucking industry where he eventually became a terminal manager for Ryder/PIE. He and his son Paul owned Juanita’s, a local mainstay Mexican restaurant for 28 years. He played fast pitch softball and bowled in several leagues, often as the league secretary. He also played in pitch leagues and coached Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle baseball, taking a team to the World Series. He was a member of the John Vendetti Post his entire adult life and spent many hours there sharing stories and laughing with fellow members. As his family grew to include 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, he spent more and more time watching them play sports and various other activities they participated in. He loved all things Syracuse Orange, Cleveland Browns and NY Yankees. His faith played a central role throughout his life as a communicant of Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Daniel’s and St. Rose of Lima churches. As a father, husband, and Papa, we were all blessed to have him. He was a kind and gentle soul who always saw the best in people. He’d give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He will be sorely missed.
A funeral Mass in celebration of Samuel's life will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at 9:30 A.M. in St. Daniel's Church, 3004 Court St., Syracuse. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours will take place on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 4:00 - 6:00 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY.
