Samuel P. Morelli Sr.'s Obituary
Samuel P. Morelli, Sr., 85, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Friday at St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born to Peter and Dora (Mastriano) Morelli, he was a life-long resident of Syracuse, a graduate of North High School, a member of the Italian American Club, the American Legion Pulaski Post where he served many years as their Treasurer, and a communicant of St. Daniel's Church. Sam served in the Army as a sergeant during World War II. Upon his return he married the love of his life, the former Eleanor Musaio who predeceased him this past March. Wanting to have his own business, in the early 1960’s, Sam and friend, Fred Maurillo established Morelli & Maurillo Insurance Agency on the North Side of Syracuse, until he retired in 1994. Sam was always admired for his generosity and helping others. Sam was the past President of Lincoln Little League where he also coached many years even after his sons were no longer in the program, and coached some of the most successful All-Star teams. He also volunteered at St. Daniel’s fall festival and sold pull tabs at Bingo each week, which he enjoyed doing during his retirement years. He was a devoted husband, loving father, caring grandfather, hard worker and generous man. He taught his children integrity, loyalty and honesty, but most of all, he taught his children the importance of family and friends. He was always there for his children and grandchildren; he enjoyed family gatherings and watching his grandchildren play sports. Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at their camp on Oneida Lake and he enjoyed vacationing with his wife in Florida. He was an avid golfer, bowler, card-player and Yankee and SU football fan. His favorite pastime was being with his family; either on vacation or each Sunday at his home. Besides his wife and parents he was predeceased by his son, Louis Morelli. Sam is survived by his children, Peter (Diane) Morelli of Endwell, N.Y., Doreen (Pat) Henson of Liverpool, Samuel Morelli Jr. of Syracuse, Joanne (Joe) Corasaniti of North Syracuse and Michael (Mary Anne) Morelli of Thousand Oaks, CA; grandchildren, Peter and David Morelli, Christopher and Katie Henson, and Cara, Peter and Ashley Corasaniti; brothers, Patrick (Amy) and Joe (Mary Ann) Morelli; sister-in-law, Carm (Paul) Mayer; three aunts, several cousins he adored, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 8 a.m. in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME and 9 a.m. in St. Daniel's Church. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. Donations may be made to St. Daniel’s Church, 3004 Court St, Syracuse, NY or the Alzheimer’s Association CNY Chapter, 441 W. Kirkpatrick St., Syracuse, NY 13204. We want to express our gratitude to the many family members and friends for their love and support during the last few years, and to the staffs of Keepsake Village at Greenpoint and St. Joseph’s Hospital, 1-8 for their extraordinary care he received.
