Santina (Mento) Bill's Obituary
Santina (Mento) Bill, 93, of Syracuse, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Van Duyn after a long illness with her loving family by her side. She was born in Syracuse, daughter of Frank and Anna (Aloi) Mento. Santina graduated from North High School and married the love of her life, John Bill in 1945.
Santina’s first love was her family. Above anything else nothing came before attending family functions and contributing all her special delicacies and scrumptious cookies. She loved giving recipes to anyone who wanted them.
Santina’s love for her home was always evident in her beautiful floral gardens. She welcomed all her friends when they played cards, one of her favorite past times or just sitting on her porch and enjoyed the beauty. Santina was always volunteering somehow by bringing wish baskets to Francis House, James Square, Buckley Landing and Ronald McDonald House. Senior groups were also important to her when she got together at McChesney Senior’s for walking, yoga and bunko along with trips to the casino. Her greatest love was having the whole family over on Christmas Eve for the traditional feast.
She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Anna (Aloi) Mento; in-laws, Frank and Mary Bill, her husband, John Bill; siblings, Fred and Nancy Mento, Jennie (Ed) Koolakian, Rose (Sebastian) Vigliotti, and Pete (Pat) Mento; daughter-in-law, Kathy Bill and son-in-law, James McNeill.
Her cherished survivors are daughter, Marilyn McNeill, John (Marilyn) Bill, Richard (Paula Detran) Bill, Sr., Robert (Betty Jane Kline) Bill; her beautiful grandchildren, Brian (Cassie) McNeill, Kristen (Edward) Gublo, Kevin (Susan) McNeill, Richard Bill, Jr., John (Megan) Bill, Eric (Angeline) Bill, Joe (Kate) Bill and Michael Bill; seven great grandchildren, Braeden and Camdyn McNeill, Ryan and Emily Gublo, Macie Bill, Mia Bill and Colleen McNeill.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Crouse Hospital and Van Duyn for their loving care and support shown to Santina.
Funeral services will be held at 8:00 am on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Funeral Mass in celebration of Santina’s life at 9:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei /St. Peter Church. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
