Santo J. (Sonny) Saya's Obituary
Santo John (Sonny) Saya, 80, of Dewitt, passed away Tuesday, October 9th at Upstate Medical Center. He was born October 4, 1932 and raised in Syracuse, the son of Frank and Mary (Mondo) Saya. Sonny served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked for Unity Mutual Life Insurance Company where he served as Vice President and Controller for 36 years. He retired in 1994 from Farmers and Traders Life Insurance Company.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Sonny enjoyed many activities during retirement, including attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events, casino trips and Yankee baseball. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church in Syracuse and Holy Cross Church in Dewitt.
Sonny was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Saya in 2011. He is survived by his children, Steven J. (Joanne) Saya of Brewerton, Kenneth M. Saya of Syracuse and Janice E. Saya of East Syracuse; grandchildren, Marisa (Joseph) Allnut, Nicholas and Alessandra Grillo-Saya, Jacquelyn and Benjamin Saya, Jacob and Eric Shults and Evan Francisco; his sisters, Margaret Vincitore, Frances Toia, Genevieve Saya and Mary (Thomas) Azzolino along with several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 1:00 pm in Holy Cross Church, 4112 East Genesee Street, Dewitt. Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Holy Cross Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Francis House, 108 Michael's Avenue, Syracuse, NY.
