Santo "Sonny" Sofia's Obituary
Santo “Sonny” Sofia, 91, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Sunday, August 4, 2024. Sonny was known for his sense of humor and great love of his family. He was an exceptional athlete and in his teens was scouted by the NY Dodgers. He was an avid bowler, playing in leagues in the Syracuse area and known to bowl a 300 game. Warm weather found him often on a golf course with his many golfing buddies, and he was most proud of his three holes-in-one. Sonny was an active volunteer at both the St. Charles and St. Lucy food pantries. He loved to dance, travel and the NY Yankees. He worked at General Electric for over 38 years.
Sonny was predeceased by Theresa (Caccamo) Sofia, Rosanne (Sofia) Hall, and Connie Sofia.
Sonny is survived by his daughter, Mary Anne Sofia; grandsons Patrick and Chris Hall; stepson Jack Conger (Heather); Uncle Pasquale Sofia (Janet); his sisters Donna Walto and Joann Wojcik; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
A funeral Mass in celebration of Sonny’s life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Charles/St. Ann Church 501 S. Orchard Rd., Syracuse. He will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 9, 2024, from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) N. Syracuse, NY 13212.
Thank you to Denise for her personal attention and compassion; to the caring and kind staff at Progressive Care at St. Joe’s Hospital; and to Debbie and Helen at the Mist Program.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Charles or St. Lucy food pantries or any charity of one’s choice.
