Sebastian "Luiz" Ignacio's Obituary
Sebastian "Luiz" Ignacio, passed away Thursday at Upstate Hospital with his loving family by his side. Born in Sao Paulo Brasil, at 16 years of age he became a professional soccer player and played most of his life in Brasil and many other countries. In 1972 Luiz came to the US to play soccer for the Connecticut Wildcats when he met Mona Zogby for the first time. After marrying Mona in 1978, he became a US citizen in 1979. Since then Luiz made a tremendous impact on the local soccer community, he then became a coach and with a strong influence he touched many people's lives. Luiz was an avid NY Knicks fan, a self-employed painter, and he worked as a painter at Crouse Irving Hospital for nine years, before retiring in 2009. Luiz was predeceased by his Godson and nephew; Douglas. He is survived by his wife of 33 years Mona (Zogby) Ignacio, 3 sons: Christopher of LA, Daniel (Marissa) of Syracuse, and Tyler of LA. 3 grandchildren: Anthony, Amari, and Jaelen, his brother and 2 sisters in Brasil, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 9:30am in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley) North Syracuse, NY 13212 and 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church where a funeral mass will be celebrated. Family and friends may call the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7pm. Contributions In lieu of flowers can be made to TEAM IGNACIO.COM The benefit will be held Sunday June 12th at Woody's in Mattydale N.Y.
