Sharon Ann (Lipeski) Alex 's Obituary
Sharon Ann (Lipeski) Alex, 71, of North Syracuse, passed away Friday, October 20, 2017 at Upstate University Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Sharon leaves behind her husband and best friend of 49 years, Francis L. Alex; their son, Christopher; her beloved granddaughter, Angela, and Angela’s mother, Amanda Lucas. She also leaves her mother, Jane Lipeski of Syracuse; her sisters, Katherine Troy (David) of Rutland, MA and Lauren Lipeski of Syracuse; nieces and nephews, Michelle and Sara Jane Giddens, Megan Troy, William and Patricia Sargent, Kris (Sargent) Perry and great-nephews, Liam and Abel.
She was predeceased by her father, Stephan Lipeski, and her sister, Stephanie Giddens.
Sharon graduated from Worcester State College, and pursued a lifelong career in biology, first at Mason Research Institute, and then at UMass Medical Center. After her retirement, she began a new career as a science academic specialist at Becker College, and then Lemoyne College. She was a tremendous asset to the students she served.
Sharon was a devoted mother and grandmother, and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with Angela. She also was a talented gardener, who created art through her design. Her hours tending her gardens gave her great pleasure. She also loved reading, cooking, baking, animals and birds, and sharing her talents with others. Those who were blessed to know Sharon will always remember her goodness and kindness, her bright smile, and the radiance of her love.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 12:00-2:00 pm at Mount Carmel Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1926 Midland Avenue, Syracuse, NY, immediately followed by a funeral service in celebration of Sharon’s life. Burial will be in Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.
Donations in Sharon’s memory may be made to Golisano Hope Lodge, 1120 S. Goodman St., Rochester, NY 14620. The services offered by Hope Lodge were a great comfort to Sharon and her family throughout her illness.
