Shirley J. Procopio's Obituary
Shirley J. Procopio, 73, of East Syracuse, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on September 7, 2022, after an 8-month battle with cancer. She was born in Syracuse, NY, daughter of the late Velton and Elsie (Byington) Miles. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who above all, enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her beloved grandchildren.
Shirley retired from Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital in 2016 where she had worked for 45 years. Shirley was a Christian woman and continued to affirm her strong faith in God all through her illness. She is remembered for always having a beautiful smile on her face, as well as a wonderful sense of humor. She was deeply loved by her family and known by all for her unwavering kindness, compassion, and love. Her favorite things were baking Christmas cookies with her grandchildren, working in her garden, and family get-togethers at her home.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years, John Romanyk; children Tony (Akilia) Procopio, Deanna (Russell) Bonferraro and Samantha (Kevin) Whitfield; seven grandchildren, Ryley, Tyler, Kabrey, AJ, Arianna, Alexa and Aphina; two sisters, Carol Rice and Pam (John) Landers; a brother, Gerald Miles; and her beloved dog, Maggie; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY 13212. A private funeral service will be held for immediate family, and Shirley will be laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery.
