Susan Marie (Angiolillo) DePaola

Susan Marie (Angiolillo) DePaola, 98, of Mattydale, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, after a brief illness. A longtime resident of Mattydale, Susan lived in the family home for 66 years, where she raised ten children with love, wisdom, and unwavering strength. She is survived by all her children, Joanne, Rosario (Penny), James (Pat), Stephen (Julie), Rosemary Rich, Francine Fanizzi (Sam), Susanne Griffiths, Elisa Mendels (Jay), Gina Chandler (Chris), Angela Boles (Scott), 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. All of whom will forever cherish her boundless warmth, love and enduring guidance. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas DePaola, her parents John and Elisa Angiolillo, and by her brothers Joseph, Rocco, Thomas, Nicholas, Carmen, and John, as well as her sisters Mary (Schirtz) and Henrietta (Boynton). Susan was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family who brought her endless joy. Her home was a constant hub for family and friends, laughter, and delicious Italian cooking—no one ever left her kitchen hungry or without a full heart. A woman of deep faith, Susan was a former president of the Altar Rosary Society and a Eucharistic Minister at her beloved Saint Margaret’s Church. She faithfully provided the poinsettias for the Altar Rosary Society’s Christmas party each year and generously donated the votive candle stand still used by parishioners today. She was also a member of the Civic Social Club of Greater Syracuse for many years. Her legacy is one of kindness, compassion, honesty, joy, and love. She lived by example, showing those around her what it meant to lead a good and generous life. She never turned down a friendly game of rummy with family or neighbors, and she remained a loyal New York Mets fan through every season. A funeral Mass in celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Monday, June 9, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Margaret’s Church 200 Roxboro Rd. Mattydale. Entombment will follow in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will take place on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 1:00 – 4:00 P.M. at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY 13212. The family would like to thank the staff at Crouse Hospital for the care and compassion they showed during her stay. Susan’s memory will live on in the countless lives she touched and the love she so freely gave.
