Susan Grago's Obituary
Susan (Sarno) Grago, 80 years old, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2019 at Treasure Coast Hospice, surrounded by family. Susan is survived by her two children, Lisa Susan Grago and Richard William Grago; her nephew, Joseph Anesi of Newtown, Connecticut; her cousin Joseph Malgieri of Lyncourt, and her in-laws, John Capria and Rosemary (Grago) Capria of Camillus, as well as extended family members and dear friends.
Susan was born in Syracuse, New York on October 28, 1938 to Joseph and Assunta (Malgieri) Sarno. She was a graduate of Central High School where she enjoyed bowling and going to the lake in the summer with friends.
On July 4, 1960, she married William J. Grago, Jr., a lifetime entrepreneur who began his career with Empire Pipeline Company in Syracuse, NY. William and Susan soon welcomed two children into the family. Susan was a devoted, caring mother who loved to laugh and have fun – being a full-time mother and wife was her greatest joy and her calling.
Susan had a heart for helping others, especially children. She volunteered in the pediatrics unit at the local hospital, often taking her children along to provide chocolate ice cream and hugs to sick children. As her own children grew, Susan went to work at Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, and retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, as a Manager of Inpatient Registration.
Susan moved to Florida with her daughter in 1999, fulfilling her wish to be close to her children once she retired. Throughout her life, Susan enjoyed tennis and travel, though her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She was known for her compassion, her high energy and laughter, her strong Catholic faith, and her devotion to family. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
A funeral service is scheduled for 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
