Susan W. (Marchessault) Lewis' Obituary
Susan W. (Marchessault) Lewis, 77, of North Syracuse, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2018, at Francis House in Syracuse, NY. Born in Paducah, KY, to Warren and E. Marguerite Mary (Carney) Marchessault, she grew up in New York City and lived for many years in Clifton, NJ, before settling in North Syracuse in 2009.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen Lewis, her parents, Warren and E. Marguerite Mary (Carney) Marchessault; her brother, Arthur Marchessault, and a sister, Patricia Marchessault, who died in infancy. Susan is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Lewis of Durham, NC, and Jennifer Lewis of Liverpool; her grandson, Arthur Monastra; her daughter’s partner, Jason Monastra; her sister, Mary Schursky; two brothers, Thomas Marchessault and James Marchessault, and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebrated and highly gifted watercolor artist, Susan was an active member of the local art community, including the North Syracuse Art Guild. Her artwork has been displayed in numerous shows and she has served as a mentor to fellow artists. Susan had a passion for life and learning that has served as an inspiration to friends and family everywhere.
Susan was a former art store manager in Newark, NJ, and last worked as a contracts assistant in the pharmaceutical industry. Following her retirement, Susan took special pride and joy in spending time with her grandson, Arthur, often attending local events such as the fair, farm days, and the Special Olympics.
A special thank you to the staff and volunteers of Francis House in Syracuse for their compassionate care and friendship offered to Susan and her family.
Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
