Susie Merluzzi's Obituary
Susie Merluzzi, 100, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday at The Crossings Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. As a communicant of Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church she lived her life God and family centric. She will forever be remembered for her commitment to Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter parish serving tirelessly on the Daughters of Columbus, St. Therese Society, Mothers Club, Pompeian Field Days and the Pompeian Players Handbill Committees.
Susie’s energy knew no limitations. As a young mother she worked in the family’s business “Merluzzi’s Meat Market” on North Salina St. as a bookkeeper and cashier. Her talents for salesmanship where witnessed by all while she worked as a buyer and salesperson in the shoe departments of Park Brannock, Sibley’s, Kaufmanns and Macy’s until she retired at 81 years old to care for an ailing sister, Gina Merluzzi.
Affectionately known as “Aunt Sue” by her many nieces and nephews, she will clearly be missed by all but remembered forever for her kindness, generosity and love. Susie lived her life for her family, church, work and God.
She was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Theresa (Bersani) Merluzzi; her sisters, Rita Merluzzi, Gina Merluzzi, Anna Leo and Margaret Massaro; her brothers, Paul and Alexander Merluzzi.
Susie is survived by her son, Anthony (Carolyn) Buffa; her grandson, Tedd Buffa; a sister, Mary Bombard; brothers, Armond (Christine) Merluzzi, Tony Merluzzi and Fritzie (MaryAnn) Merluzzi; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Susie’s life at 11:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church. Interment will be in Assumption Cemetery. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Friday, December 4, 2015 at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY. The St. Therese Society will recite their ritual at 3:30 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash
