Sylvia E. Fritz's Obituary
Sylvia E. (Ward) Fritz, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 11, 2013 at James Square Health and Rehabilitation Centre. Sylvia graduated with high honors as salutatorian from Guilford High School in North Carolina in 1948 and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia (now VMI) in Richmond, with a nursing degree in 1955. Shortly thereafter, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps as a Lieutenant (JG) in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1959. From whence she became a devoted wife and mother to her three children. She also resumed LPN/RN duties being employed by the East Irondequoit School District and St. Ann's Home in Rochester, NY during the 1970's. Sylvia was also community involved as a Cub Scouts Den Mother, Monroe County Board of Elections Inspector and St. Salome's Women's Club officer for many years in Rochester. She was an active communicant with Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Liverpool, NY. Mom always served the needs of her family and community first without nary a complaint. For this she is truly loved by her family and friends and sorely missed. God almighty has another blessed angel by his side.
She was predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Sarah Ward; her brothers, David (Clara) and Junious (Ruby) Ward of Greensboro, NC. Sylvia is survived by her children, Thomas (Darlene) Fritz Jr., Patricia (Ronald) Irish, Joseph (Lynn) Fritz; granddaughters, Jackie and Jamie Fritz; brothers, Rufus (Claudine) and Ralph Ward and sisters, Rebecca (Ray) Spainhour and Barbara (Rick) Davis, all from North Carolina along with many nieces and nephews all over the United States.
Funeral services will be held at 9:00 am on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, 3401 Vickery Rd. (corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse. Entombment will be in Irondequoit Cemetery, Rochester, NY. Family and friends may call at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.
