Teresa A. Gelormini's Obituary
Teresa A. Gelormini, 72, went to be with the Lord Jesus on July 24, 2023. She was born in Syracuse on April 7, 1951, to James and Concetta (DelVecchio) Gelormini. Teresa possessed an incredible sense of humor recognized by her high school classmates with the distinction of “Funniest Student” in her senior year. That humor and understanding of human frailties sustained her throughout her personal and professional life.
She was a life-long member of St. Brigid’s Church and subsequently St. Patrick’s as well an active member of the St. Brigid CYO. Teresa graduated from St. Brigid’s elementary school and St. Patrick’s high school. She earned her undergraduate degree from Villa Maria College in Erie, PA, and a master’s degree from Syracuse University.
She worked for 31 years as an educator at the Syracuse Developmental Center teaching and championing people with special needs. She was a very caring professional who often took her students home for the holidays to make them feel included, loved, and needed.
Teresa is survived by her brothers, James L. (Beverly) Gelormini and Michael A. Gelormini; niece, Danielle (Steven) Thompson and nephew, Dr. Nicholas Gelormini of Massachusetts; great nieces, Ava and Eliana Thompson and Lucienne Gelormini, and great nephew, Luca Thompson; along with many cousins.
The family wishes to thank all the aides who took excellent care of Teresa presently and in the past. Also, special thanks to cousins Maria, Martha and Mary Anne and friends, Judy, Cindy and Anne for their continual kindness and love.
Calling hours will take place on Friday, July 28, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. in St. Patrick’s & St. Brigid’s Church, 216 North Lowell Ave., Syracuse, NY, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will be in Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Resources of CNY Inc., 6743 Kinne St., East Syracuse, NY 13057.
