Teresa (Campolo) Modafferi's Obituary
Teresa (Campolo) Modafferi, 93, of North Syracuse, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Originally from Gallico, Marina Reggio, Calabria, Italy, she was born on January 5th, 1929, to the late Antoinette (Meduri) and Vincenzo Campolo. In 1963, Teresa, her husband Giovanni, and their 2 small children emigrated through Ellis Island in 1963 and residing on the North Side of Syracuse for many years, before moving to the suburbs. Religion and Family came first to Teresa, nothing was more important than that and her children and grandchildren, and especially her great-grandchildren! She worked and retired from Syracuse China early to help with the grandkids, something she truly enjoyed! She was a member of Our Lady of Pompei Church, the Italian Prayer Group, and St. Therese Society. She enjoyed feeding everyone no matter who, the table was always set for all. Along with cooking, she enjoyed her prayers daily, gardening, baking (especially Christmas time cookies), she was the Bocce Ball Queen who had a very competitive spirit (you wanted to be on HER TEAM only). Teresa and her husband were snowbirds in Fort Pierce, FL. for many years. She was also an avid SU basketball fan to the core, who rarely missed a game.
Besides her parents, Teresa was predeceased by her loving Husband of 48 years, Giovanni Modafferi, in 2001, as well as 1 brother, and 3 sisters.
She is survived by her son Vinnie Modafferi; daughter Maria (William) Modafferi-Wentworth; former daughter in-law, Lynn Richer; Siblings, Domenico Campolo, and Giovanna Campolo Meduri; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, here in Syracuse and in Italy.
A funeral service will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at the THOMAS J. PIRRO JR. FUNERAL HOME, followed by a funeral mass in celebration of Teresa’s life at 10:00 am in Our Lady of Pompei Church, 301 Ash St. Syracuse. Entombment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends may call from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the funeral home, 3401 Vickery Rd. (Corner of Buckley Rd.) North Syracuse, NY.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving care given to mom by the staff at The Cottages at Garden Grove, and especially the staff on her floor at St. Joseph's Hospital room 1505, Lelea, Missy, and Colleen Zogby for their compassion and understanding during this difficult time.
